Gumbo was originated in the 18th century in southern Louisiana. Gumbo is a dish that represents mix cultures in southern Louisiana. This dish has different combinations of culinary practices that include; Spanish, African slaves, French, native tribes, Italians, and Germans. Back in the 18th and 19th century these cultures lived together in a small area, this influenced the cultures within the area to make different types of cooking that created new traditions and cuisine. This dish was always modified and is very unique because of the different ingredients that were introduced by different cultural groups to create the perfect gumbo dish.
